Happy Tuesday morning to you!

Snow. You either love it, or you hate it. But if you are living in Iowa, you better get used to it. And why not?

Snowstorms bring me back to my childhood days, playing for countless hours, all bundled up for the winter weather, sledding on the hills. I also remember my brother Brian getting his dirt bike out and racing around in the snow on an open lot near our childhood home. He convinced me to allow him to tie my sled to the back of his motorcycle and pull me around. It was fun for a few laps, until he fell to the temptation of taking me airborne — Evel Knievel style — over a snow pile, eventually landing squarely on my behind. I didn’t break any bones, but my plastic sled was in pieces. My brother then found out how fast a little guy in tears could run home with both hands on his buttocks. He chased after me in hopes of stopping me from ratting him out to Mom. He wasn’t fast enough.

Hopefully this snowstorm didn’t leave you with too much soreness or a reason to tell on your siblings. Just go with it and enjoy the winter weather. After all, it’s Iowa.

Have a great Tuesday!

Pandemic sparks Lundstrom to write books

In March of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, Ankeny’s Jessica Lundstrom was as perplexed as everyone else. The questions were many. What is this? How long will it last?
But instead of getting mired in negativity, Lundstrom turned to her creative side and published two books: one for children titled “When Am I Supposed To Wear A Mask?” that hit shelves in October; and a second book, “The Adults Can Read Between the Lines,” a book of poetry.
Lundstrom says it was her two young sons and their reactions to having to suddenly wear masks in public that gave her the idea to write the children’s book.
