Pollster extraordinaire Ann Selzer once told me that the winner of U.S. presidential elections is typically the person who Americans would feel the most comfortable having a beer with. Once again, she was right. It may be a matter of likeability or relatability or some other kind of ability, but it seems to be mostly correct.
The truth is that you can learn a lot about people by simply asking a few questions regarding who they would rather drink a beer with. Knowing that some people don’t drink beer, I decided that the better question might be who they would rather go to lunch with. With that in mind, I compiled 12 questions with names of people to choose from. Some are dead, some are alive, and some were never dead or alive. So play along, see how you would answer these, and then guess what someone can learn about you by your answers — then try this out on your friends.
1. Would you rather go to lunch with Olympic wrestling champion Dan Gable, or retired national evening news anchor Dan Rather?
2. How about chocolate factory owner Willy Wonka, or country music legend Willie Nelson?
3. Would you prefer to spend your lunch hour with the Professor from Gilligan’s Island’s, or Thurston Howell III?
4. Would you pull your weight with Archie Bunker, or Meathead?
5. Would Bruce Lee, or Bruce Wayne, make your lunch calendar?
6. Would you have vittles with The Beverly Hillbillies, or The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?
7. Would you jam with basketball legend Michael Jordan, or singing sensation Michael Jackson?
8. Would Wilma Flintstone, or Betty Rubble share in your brontosaurus burger?
9. If you had to eat a Slim Jim for lunch, would you do so with U.S. Senator Rand Paul, or the Macho Man Randy Savage?
10. Would having lunch with pop singer Sheryl Crow make you happy, or would you prefer some conversation with “Charlie’s Angels” star Cheryl Ladd?
11. Is Facebook (now Meta, whatever that is) CEO Mark Zuckerberg your lunch date, or Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban? (Beware, as Zuckerberg likely already has your data on this.)
12. And finally, who would you pick between Paul Michael Glaser’s Starsky, or David Soul’s Hutch?
Look out. Your answers may say more about you than you think.
Have a marvelous Monday, and thanks for reading.
