“Loved the Daily Umbrella this morning (March 8, 2022). Damn toenails!” - Barry
Maybe we should just have them removed? Then again, maybe not. – Shane
“I really enjoyed Darren’s pickleball article in CITYVIEW this month! I dropped him a note letting him know that it was well done. I suspect you put a bee in his ear to research and write it, so thank you, too! After all, the fastest-growing sport in America deserves the attention. Hope to catch you on the courts someday.” – Chuck
I enjoyed the article as well, and I hope to see you on the courts, too. - Shane “Shane, the Newton Maid-Rite (March 3, 2022)” has always been a destination for my husband, Bradley, and me when we would go visit family or attend the Iowa Speedways races. (Brad grew up in Newton) We love their food and the service is always friendly! Brad’s sister had moved way from Iowa over 30 years ago to teach in Arizona. She and her husband had retired a few years ago, and she wanted to do a summer memories tour during their visit with us. Of course, the Newton Maid-Rite and Maytag Cheese were on the itinerary. Thanks for sharing about a local business that has been such a long-time staple in the Newton community. - Lu Anne
You are welcome, and my first visit to the Newton Maid-Rite won’t be my last. – Shane
“Hi Shane, I just want to say that I enjoy your columns. Keep up the good work. Today’s column (March 8, 2022) hit home with my wife and I, and we can sympathize with your dilemma. Although, as we have grown older (and we are much older than you), we attribute the fact that it is harder to trim our toenails is because our arms have grown shorter! Have a good day. God bless.” - Larry
Ahhh. That may explain my shrinking pants, too. – Shane
“Hello, Mr. Goodman. Your ‘Kick the habit’ column in the latest Winterset Living magazine rang true with my experience. My dad said at the age of 14, he started smoking unfiltered Lucky Strike cigarettes. He continued smoking them up until a year before cancer took him at age 82. Luckily, my two brothers and I did not seem to be affected by second- and third-hand smoke. Although, because of my father’s and her father’s smoking, my mother had a spot on a lung. For the dangers of smoking, I am grateful there is currently so much awareness and so many people that do not smoke. Also, I appreciate your addressing the issue.”- Hank
If one person chooses to stop smoking from it, then it was worth it. Thank you for the note, Hank. – Shane
“Good morning. As a working and now retired LEO who grew up in New Jersey where police officers identify as being ‘On the job’ pronounced as ‘On da job,’ I've had the plate ‘ONDAJOB’ for many years. (March 8, 2022). For a few years, I had a Mustang also with the plate ‘FLATFOOT.’ Thanks for thoughtful reads each morning.” - John
You are welcome, John. Are you now OFFDAJOB? – Shane
Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.
