Good Friday Morning to You!

Welcome to another Friday mailbag, where you will find comments, questions and ideas that were sent recently by subscribers of this newsletter.

“Hi Shane, we also had several boxes of old electronics and cords plus desktop computers and printers. (March 23, 2022) We downsized and moved right before the pandemic, and now we’re down to one box of each ‘essential’ old electronics and cords. … Keep writing!” - Patty

Me, too. But it’s a big box! – Shane

“Hi, Shane. Just wanted to let you know, if you do want to get rid of your electronic devices (March 23, 2022), West Des Moines Elementary schools would gladly accept them for Maker Space, STEAM or Inquiry labs. Kids take them apart and look at their parts. Thank you.” - Kristy

What a great solution! Thank you, Kristy. - Shane

“Great article. Thanks for reminding me of George Carlin (March 24, 2022). Made me look through some of my stuff and find his book, and I will be re-reading it.” – Roma

George was one of the best, and his comedy routines make me laugh no matter how many times I hear them. - Shane

“Thank you, Shane, for sharing your school bus experience (March 28, 2022). A great reminder to all of us to drive responsibly and safely. Blessings on you and your family!” - John

Most of us learn lessons the hard way. I know I do. - Shane

“Pranks show your age (March 31, 2022). When working, I would tape the button down on the phone cradle. When it rings, they would take the receiver out of the cradle, and the phone would continue ringing. Can’t do that one anymore!” – Chuck

No wonder I can’t hear anyone on my office phone. – Shane

“I have wanted to slap you before but you bench pressed more than me (April 5, 2022).” - Kirk

The only thing I am pressing now is my luck. And that is running out. – Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

For the love of the game

Hender took to the ice when he was 4.

By Darren Tromblay

For Ankeny’s Dylan Hender, the game of hockey has been in his blood for nearly as long as he can remember.

“I learned to skate when I was 4, when my dad would take me and my brother to open skates,” he says.

“I Immediately fell in love and wanted to skate without any help,” Hender says. “I remember my first time playing hockey was when I was 6. I was smiling nonstop the entire game. From there, it took off. I’ve had a love for the game ever since then.”
