For many of us, a good night’s sleep isn’t as easy to come by as it was when we were younger. On the occasions when I would sleep late in my youth, my father would tell me, “You must have needed it.” He must have been right.
I still need more sleep. We all do. So what helps you get to sleep? And what keeps you awake?
At our home, my wife and I continually debate about the ceiling fan. I want it on. She wants it off. The air movement. The humming sound. The lower temperature. Those all help me sleep better, and they all apparently keep Jolene awake.
Speaking of temperature, the cooler the better for my sleeping satisfaction. Jolene wears wool socks to bed in July.
When we had a dog, we didn’t need an alarm clock, and there was no sleeping in. Kobie was bouncing around at 5:30 every morning, ready to eat. And he somehow instantly adjusted to daylight savings time, too. He was never a minute late, which, of course, would be seven in dog minutes.
Mourning doves are named appropriately. The two that perch on our fence wake me up and make me mourn — every morning. And if you have Canada geese nestling in your neighborhood, you are familiar with their morning honks and hrinks.
Alerts on your cell phone may give you a morning wake-up notice. If the delivery of this e-newsletter dings on your phone, then I am glad we can be the ones to help get you going in the morning.
You must have needed it.
Have a marvelous Monday, and thanks for reading.
