Good Friday Morning to You!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag, where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by subscribers of this newsletter. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Time for a condo (Yard work mishaps, July 18, 2022)? I am with you, buddy. I am finally tired of mowing my yard. I always enjoyed it in the past.” - Kirk.

Can I buy your lawn mower self-propel belt? - Shane

“Thanks for sharing your adventures in misfortune (Yard work mishaps, July 18, 2022). I hope your Sunday made up for it, and your week is great.” - Donna

Actually, that all happened on a Sunday afternoon, but most all my mishaps are fixed now— and ready to happen again. - Shane

“One of the things we miss about living in Pella was the tradition of not working on Sunday (Yard work mishaps, July 18, 2022). We could sit outside and not have to listen to someone's lawn mower. This is not to criticize you for doing your yard work on Sunday. I can't help but wonder if your misfortunes were your neighbors putting bad mojo on the invasion of their peaceful Sunday afternoon yesterday. Best wishes for a safe weekend.” - John

You might be onto something. Point taken. - Shane

“I laughed really hard during this read this morning (Yard work mishaps, July 18, 2022). My good healthy laugh for the day! Thank you.”- Pat

I am glad someone was laughing. I wasn’t. - Shane

“I want to extend my sympathies in the passing of your mother (Burying my mother, June 21, 2022).  I lost my mom six years ago, and it feels like yesterday. When I read about your not-so-good day, I instantly identified with you. I read about the mower belt and wanted to warn you to take the day off (Yard work mishaps, July 18, 2022). Take days like that weekend as a reminder to sit down and rest. Think of your mom,  sleep or create a new memory with family. Let the chores go. Mishaps do come in more than threes when we are grieving. Be well.” - Karin

Thank you, Karin. That’s a thoughtful perspective I have not considered. - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

Where country meets the sky

The Sheltons are landowners, pilots and volunteers.

By Becky Kolosik

The National Balloon Classic is a special and busy time for the Shelton family. Bob and Janice are landowners, and having a competition target located on their land is something they don’t take lightly.

“The relationships between pilots and landowners across the county is vital to the existence of the Classic,” says Bob. “Without permission to launch/land a balloon, pilots could not fly.”

However, the Sheltons are not just landowners. Bob is a pilot and both he and Janice are long-standing volunteers with the Classic.
