Good Monday morning to you!

My body has plenty of aches and pains. I take ibuprofen, and most of those pains go away. It's incredible. But I also know that taking too much ibuprofen will cause problems for my body, too. The same could be said about our nation’s ongoing debt — or what we are now calling “stimulus packages.” Most of us can’t get our arms around what $1.9 trillion looks like, and that’s part of the problem. It is so massive that we dismiss it as no big deal. But it is a big deal— a HUGE deal. And it will have to be repaid somehow, some way, some day. A stimulus was certainly needed to help combat COVID-19-related issues, especially for struggling families and unemployed Americans, but I don’t know if any of us could justify $1.9 trillion.
So where is all this stimulus money going? We are specifically told it will provide $1,400 stimulus payments for most taxpayers and $300 weekly federal jobless aid through early September. We are also told — not so specifically — that it will provide funding for vaccine distribution and testing, an expansion of the child tax credit, and money for state and local governments.
That’s a monster with a lot of heads, but that’s how federal funding seems to work today with everyone seemingly wanting and getting their piece. The whole process makes my body ache. Now where’s the ibuprofen?
Have a marvelous Monday, and, as always, thanks for reading.
